CoatnSeal® is a proprietary surface-formulation
to coat and seal SmartCells cushioned flooring.
Coat SmartCells to:
- improve traction
- make repairs easier
- provide the look-and-feel you want
Seal SmartCells to:
- eliminate liquid migration
- enhance infection control
Anti-microbial (Option)
Additives in CoatnSeal will provide resistance to Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Gram positive bactreium such as Stapphylococcus aureus will likewise be resisted.
Fungi species, (including molds) that commonly attack wood and it’s products such as Alternaria alternata, Aureobasidium pullulans, Phialophora (and related species), Rhinocladiella, Sclerophoma species, Torula species and Trichocladium asperum may be resisted when CoatnSeal additives are used.

Anti-slip
In wet areas where extra friction is needed to help prevent slips and falls, anti-slip texturing is added to the CoatnSeal surface.

Seals Joints and Edges
SmartCells cushioned / anti-fatigue flooring is typically used without CoatnSeal treatment in areas like pharmacies, labs, industrial and retail settings to improve health, safety and productivity. The 3’x3’ tiles are custom fit and loose-laid with their edges adhered to one another. Because infection control issues are less important in these environments, there is usually no need for additional coating or sealing.

However, for specialized applications like hospitals, sterile facilities, clean rooms, and long-term care facilities, where infection control or other issues are critical, SmartCells flooring is coated and sealed to protect against fluid migration.

Easy to repair
If ever there is a gouge, cut, slice, etc. in the coating, a simple repair using a small amount of coating and a putty-knife to apply the coating to the affected area is all that is needed.
About CoatnSeal
The SmartCells CoatnSeal surface coat is for installations where infection control issues are paramount, or wherever the flooring needs to be sealed and made impervious to exposure from fluids. After surface treating the SmartCells pads for optimal adhesion, the CoatnSeal is applied as a thick fluid that is evenly spread to a thickness of about 1/16th of an inch that levels and seals the seams between the mats, and all edges.

Next, color chips and surface textures are applied, as required. Then, a final coating / sealant is applied.
CoatnSeal provides some important features:
1) No seams, just one contiguous surface. Rolled goods, require that their seams be hot or cold-welded, which may separate over time, and make repairs more challenging.
2) Better infection control. The SmartCells coating can be impregnated with anti-microbial agents.
3) Color Choice. The coating is available in a range of base colors, like sand or grey. During application, flecks paint can be added to create a desired look and pattern.
4) Surface texture. In areas like shower rooms, anti-slip material can be added to provide additional traction, creating one continuous floor, with different textures where needed.
5) Ease of maintenance. If ever there is a gouge, cut, slice, etc. in the coating, a simple repair using a small amount of coating and a puddy-knife to apply the coating to the affected area is all that is needed.
6) Decreased installation time, and quicker turn-around time. The process is quicker than cutting-and-fitting rolled flooring material |
The proprietary CoatnSeal surface has been specifically developed for SmartCells cushioned flooring applications by a company, Specialty Products Inc. (SPI), that has a been an innovative leader in spray-applied Polyurea Elastomers, Polyurethane Foams and custom Plural Component Equipment, since 1974.
SPI’s expertise include: primary and secondary containment, encapsulation, marine, linings, coatings (abrasion resistance/corrosion protection), foam coatings, roof coatings, joint fill/caulk, flooring, manholes, sealant, earthen containment, wood coatings, food containers/ carriers, exhibits, spray molding, repair and reconstruction, structures, general protection, and others. Of important note are the protective coatings SPI has created for blast mitigation and thermal barriers on military vehicles.
The SmartCells surface coat is comprised of a proprietary combination of SPI’s standard formulations that meet the SmartCells fall protection flooring requirements:
• Surface flexibility/stiffness that does not interfere with cushioning
• Adhesion that will enable rolling loads
• Sealing that provides a tough, monolithic membrane with good water and chemical resistance, that will enhance infection control
• Ease of maintenance
• Installation with minimum intrusion
• Ability to be applied for the widest possible range of installations (wet or dry)
• High abrasion resistance
• Allow surface treatments (color and texture) |
The standard SPI formulations from which the SmartCells formulation is comprised have no solvents, no VOCs, and comply with NFPA and UBC Class 1 Fire Ratings.
